Dudhani : A weekend get-a-way

When we (Mumbaikars) speak of going to Gujarat in the sense of travel, we know only a few places like Rann of Kutch, Gir national park, Palitana temples, Girnar and the top favorites Diu and Daman

Though Rani ki Vav and Modhera are gaining numbers on the tourism index, people prefer the Statue of Unity

So am I talking about any different place?
Yes. Probably you might not have heard of Dudhani. Regionally Dudhani is not in Gujarat or Maharashtra. Dudhani is a village, part of Dadra and Nagar Haveli – a union territory placing itself between the borders of Gujarat and Maharashtra

How to reach Dudhani:
The best way to reach Dudhani is by your personal vehicle (personal / rented / cab)

Another way to reach will be by using public transport. You will need to reach Vapi by either Train or Bus. Then take a bus to reach Khanvel. Buses are frequent to Khanvel via Silvassa(Selvas). Reach Khanvel and then ask for transport to Dudhani. If you don’t find something, there is always the auto rickshaw available from Khanvel. I am not aware of anything coming from Mumbai or Dahanu side to Khanvel

Where to stay in Dudhani:
Dudhani has around 2-3 operational accommodation options. The furthest Aquaserene Tourist Resort aka (Dudhani Tourist Resort) is nearest to the lake however they don’t have an in-house restaurant and food needs to be pre-ordered. That isn’t much trouble though and the place is good to stay for families

Another option is Hotel Van Vihar. Personally I would recommend this place to stay as I myself stayed here. They have an in-house restaurant + bar + more than decent rooms. Rooms have a lake view. The most important point, even with hardly any restaurant nearby, is that the food was very good with enough quantity and offcourse veg and non veg both. What else do we mortals need?

Another good thing to mention, my stay plan included breakfast. They didn’t serve me some buffet breakfast but instead I could order an item of choice for free with Tea. That was so cool and doesn’t generally happen with mid range hotels

My plan is to ride my bike along the Mumbai – Ahmedabad highway and reach Dudhani and enjoy the lake. Take some nice pictures and return back the next day

The Ride:
I am sure many of you have been on the Mumbai – Ahmedabad highway. The ride was smooth as always and I reached Dudhani around 11:00 am

While on your way to Dudhani, you might get tempted to stay at Khanvel. Khanvel is a major town and Khanvel resort is the Boss here. It is a huge resort spread left right north south of Khanvel. It majorly acts as a destination wedding place. I think the entire area is owned by one family or person. Must be super rich. However, if you are here to enjoy nature and the huge lake, staying in Khanvel (just for the Luxury of the resort and a butterfly park) won’t be a great idea

As I reached Dudhani, finding Hotel Van Vihar was not an issue. Even on a May afternoon, the air was cool here

The best time to visit Dudhani: October – May. Monsoon has it’s own charm but the water level is too high. It nearly reaches the Aquaserene resort. I am sure they wont do any boating in Core monsoon. Avoid June – August

Things to do in Dudhani:
A short drone video of the Dudhani lake (HD / 4K)

– If you have been to Bhandardara / Pawna and liked it; Dudhani is a similar and better place. A huge lake with a lot of boats to enjoy the evening. Less people. Lot of empty space to sit and enjoy the sunset
– As the ground near the lake is flat and like a meadow, even if your kids run here and there, the chances they might fall and hurt themselves is very less
– Excellent place for photography
– Make sure you don’t miss the sunset at the lake
– There is also a boat house here available on rent. The rent is 3000 for the entire boat for 1 hour. I believe it can occupy around 30 people easily. If you are looking to party or celebrate a birthday on a boat house, go to Dudhani
– Dongar Mauli is a small trek if you wish to pray and seek beautiful high ground vistas of the lake
– The other (North) side of the lake is Gujarat. A ferry service runs between the North end to Dudhani. It carries cars and people
